Opposition to simplify tax system, cancel agreement on double taxation with Cyprus, reads program

UKRAINE-OPPOSITION-PROGRAM

Kyiv, June 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The united opposition wants to eliminate “the total monopoly” of the Ukrainian authorities in politics and the economy, as well as simplify the tax system to the maximum, Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense parliamentary faction MP and Head of the Front for Change Party Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.

“Destruction of corrupt political influence on the Ukrainian economy – that’s our main challenge for today,” he said at a roundtable discussion entitled “Stable Competitive Effective Economy” in Kyiv on Friday.

According to an Interfax-Ukraine reporter, Yatseniuk presented the key provisions of the economy-related part of the draft program of the united opposition.

Yatseniuk stated that the total monopoly in Ukraine’s politics and economy has to be eliminated, as well as the authorities’ monopoly on Ukrainian natural resources, the whole energy sector, privatization, and work with the tax administration.

According to Yatseniuk, the taxation system in Ukraine should be as clear and transparent as possible. In its program, the united opposition proposes to keep seven national taxes.

“The first and the key task for us is to simplify the tax system to the maximum, make it the most compatible and attractive on the territory of Europe,” Yatseniuk said.

The united opposition also proposed to update value added tax (VAT), and keep corporate income tax, tax on natural deposits, land and real estate, individual income tax, and excise taxes.

According to Yatseniuk, such a simplified tax system will prevent tax evasion and tax concealing.

“The more simple the system, the more difficult it is to evade it,” he said.

Yatsenuik also said that an agreement on double taxation with the Republic of Cyprus should be cancelled.
