Tymoshenko still supports European integration of Ukraine, says Vlasenko

UKRAINE-TYMOSHENKO-VLASENKO

Kharkiv, May 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko does not oppose the initialing and signature of the Association Agreement with the EU, the ex-premier’s defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, said.

Earlier, some media reported, referring to Vice President of the European Parliament Jacek Protasiewicz, that Tymoshenko allegedly opposed the signature and ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU.

“This is not true. I think that journalists misinterpreted the European politician’s opinion. The position of Yulia Volodymyrivna on the issue remains unchanged, under her premiership the process of initialing, signature and ratification of these documents started in Ukraine. Yulia Volodymyrivna absolutely sincerely supports Ukraine’s way towards European integration, while the Ukrainian authorities are doing everything to hinder this process,” Vlasenko said, while commenting on the reports.

According to Vlasenko, the current Ukrainian authorities break fundamental human rights and disrespect the freedom of speech.

“I think that the majority of citizens of Belarus are in the family of European countries, but Belarus has no chances to get into Europe while dictatorship rules there. Unfortunately, Ukraine is experiencing the same situation today,” Vlasenko added.
