Yanukovych calling for higher mineral production taxes

UKRAINE-TAXES-RESOURCES-PRESIDENT

Kyiv, July 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The mineral production and environmental taxes are too low in Ukraine, President Viktor Yanukovych said on the occasion of the day of an employee of the State Tax Service.

“Unfortunately, we still do not use to the full the potential of taxation of economic activities related to mineral production,” the press service quoted the president as saying on Monday.

“Meanwhile, the proceeds from mineral production and environmental taxes in the European Union constitute about 4% of GDP, and in some countries up to 15%. In our country this indicator barely exceeds 1% of GDP,” Yanukovych said.
