Yevhenia Tymoshenko meets with Nobel Peace Prize winner

UKRAINE-TYMOSHENKO-FRANCE-MEETING

Kyiv, July 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi expressed her solidarity and support to jailed former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko during a meeting with the ex-premier’s daughter, Yevhenia, in Paris.

“Yulia Tymoshenko is a very strong woman. I know of her struggle against the authoritarian regime in Ukraine and, therefore I express my solidarity with political prisoner Yulia Tymoshenko and I wish her the strength to overcome all the obstacles on Ukraine’s path to democracy. I believe in her victory,” Tymoshenko’s official Web site quoted the Nobel Peace Prize winner on July 3.

Yevhenia Tymoshenko, in turn, thanked San Suu Kyi for her support and noted that her mother would not stop her fight, despite any persecution and pressure.

Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese opposition politician, who remained under house arrest in Burma for almost 15 of the 21 years from July 20 1989 until November 13 2010. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.
