UKRAINE-LAVRA-SITUATION
Kyiv, August 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The cost of tickets to enter the territory of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Historical and Cultural Reserve was cut from UAH 50 to UAH 3 starting from August 8, 2012, according to the press service of the Ukrainian government.
The statement reads that the price was cut “thanks to the personal intervention of Premier Mykola Azarov, who was outraged by the price policy of the reserve’s management.”
The premier ordered that the management significantly reduce the prices of tickets as soon as possible.
Azarov said that Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is a national historical sight, and not “a sightseeing bureau” that openly earns money from believers and tourists.
The premier also instructed Culture Minister Mykhailo Kulyniak to draft an action plan of normalization of the situation at the reserve within ten days.
