Finance ministry sends UAH 3.3 b to pay defaulted deposits to former Soviet-era Sberbank depositors

Kyiv, August 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Finance Ministry of Ukraine as of August 10, 2012 has sent UAH 3.3 billion to Oschadbank out of UAH 6.6 billion foreseen in the national budget to pay to former Soviet-era Sberbank depositors and their heirs, read a report of the ministry issued on Monday.

The report says that on August 9, 2012 UAH 300 million was sent for the purposes.

According to Oschadbank, over the first two months of payments (June-July) around 2.1 million of citizens obtained compensations worth UAH 1.96 billion.

Some 3.8 million depositors have a date for updating their data, including 3.3 million of them who have updated information.

From September 1, 2012, Oschadbank will resume the registration of citizens in its information and analytical system – the register of deposits of citizens who have not registered their data and compensation accounts. The president and the government have declared their plans to continue payments in 2013.
