Gas contract 2009 unique – Russia got what it wanted, Ukraine lost everything, says Azarov

UKRAINE-PREMIER-GAS-CONTRACTS

Kyiv, August 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has said that Ukraine lost everything it could when the 2009 gas contracts were signed.

“The contract for gas supplies Ukraine and Russia signed in 2009 is one of those rare cases when one side gets everything it wanted, while the other side – Ukraine – loses everything it could lose in the agreement,” the premier said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on Friday.

“Such cases are unique. They show that the government that signed such an agreement was unable to stand for its position. Compromise can always be found in all other cases,” Azarov said.
