"Secret agent" who demanded meeting with president at Kremlin walls sent to mental institution

MOSCOW-CENTER-INCIDENT

Moscow, August 13 (Interfax) – A mentally unstable man who said he was a special services official and demanded a meeting with the president near the Kremlin’s Spasskaya Tower has been sent to a mental institution, a source in the law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

Police officers noticed the man, who was behaving strangely and tried to gain access to secure territory in Red Square near the Spasskaya Tower around 1100. The man told the police he was a “secret agent” and needed to meet with the Russian president, the source said.

The police took the 62-year old man and handed him over to doctors, who sent him to a mental institution.
