UKRAINE-TYMOSHENKO-MEETING
Kharkiv, August 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A request of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, who is undergoing treatment at Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv, for a meeting with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira does not contradict recent recommendations of her German doctors, according to the ex-premier’s defense lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko.
“We have a conclusion of German doctors, in which they prescribed Yulia Volodymyrivna eight weeks of rest… We are speaking about stress situations. If you had your appendicitis excised no one should take you to court by force, but it does not mean that your friends may not come to see you,” Vlasenko said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, while explaining why the ex-premier insisted on a meeting with the EU ambassador, but refused to take part in a video conference with the lawyers from the U.S. Universal Trading and Investment Company (UTICo).
He stressed that it was UTICo, and not a U.S. court, that asked for a video conference with the Ukrainian side.
“The Ukrainian side did not receive any requests from a U.S. court. There was a letter from UTICo. Secondly, Ukrainian laws still have power in Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian legislation, no one has the right to force somebody to take part in a video conference, moreover, we have the conclusion of German doctors I’ve mentioned before,” Vlasenko said.
At the same time, Vlasenko did not answer when Tymoshenko could meet with Teixeira. He said that the ex-premier asked to hold such a meeting on August 11.
As reported, the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine said that Yulia Tymoshenko insisted on a meeting with Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira despite the recent recommendation of her doctors to refrain from having meetings.
“Convict Tymoshenko upon relevant request has against received permission for a meeting with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Teixeira. Earlier, on the same request, the convict had received permission for such a meeting, but the ambassador did not arrive for a meeting with Tymoshenko then,” reads the statement.
The penitentiary service recalled that on August 9 Tymoshenko officially refused to participate in a video conference in the case of the U.S. consulting firm U.S. Universal Trading and Investment Company (UTICo) against her explaining that Ukrainian and German doctors recommended her to limit number of meetings.
