UKRAINE-PENITENTIARY SERVICE-TYMOSHENKO

Tymoshenko wants to meet with EU ambassador despite doctors’ recommendations, says penitentiary service

Kyiv, August 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko insists on a meeting with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira despite the recent recommendation of her doctors to refrain from having meetings, according to the press service of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine.

“Convict Tymoshenko upon relevant request has against received permission for a meeting with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Teixeira. Earlier, on the same request, the convict had received permission for such a meeting, but the ambassador did not arrive for a meeting with Tymoshenko then,” reads the statement.

The penitentiary service stressed that Teixeira did not send any requests to meet with Tymoshenko, as last time.

“The decision to permit the meeting is based only in convict Tymoshenko’s request. She insists on a meeting with the EU ambassador to Ukraine and says that they have agreed upon it in advance, she demands the meeting to be held despite the conclusion of Ukrainian and German doctors to recommend her refraining from meetings for a while,” the service said.

The penitentiary service recalled that on August 9 Tymoshenko officially refused to participate in a video conference in the case of the U.S. consulting firm U.S. Universal Trading and Investment Company (UTICo) against her explaining that Ukrainian and German doctors recommended her to limit number of meetings.
