Kharkiv, August 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych supports the development of small-scale power generation.
“We should give a good thought to small-scale power generation, it is a great help for the development of the energy sector in Ukraine as a whole. Because, these are small-scale power generating enterprises that regulate daily load on the power system, and the regulation of daily load means quality of electricity, and its cost. When we build large pumped storage systems, it is very expensive in the first place. Secondly, we will not be able to regulate our daily load properly – experts are well-aware of this,” Yanukovych said on Wednesday, speaking at a meeting with business officials of Kharkiv region.
In this regard, the president noted the need to produce turbines for small hydro power plants.
Speaking about the aviation industry, Yanukovych called the development of small aircraft a promising area.
“It is the future. Because we will not build such huge airports as in Kharkiv, for instance, and there is no need for this, whereas speed for small groups of people in a fast developing world will make a huge difference,” Yanukovych said.
